Asian Food Day

It’s Asian Day on Sam the Cooking Guy. Sweet & Sour Ramen, Honey-Garlic Shrimp, Thai Fish Curry & an Asian Inspired Taco. 


Sweet & Sour Ramen: Cut 1/2 pound of bacon into little pieces and heat up in pan. Cut up some red, green and/or yellow peppers and add to bacon while cooking.  

Sweet & Sour sauce: In a bowl mix 1/2 cup of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 1 tablespoon of soy mix.  

Take a packet of ramen and drop in bowling water for 2 1/2 minutes. In a pan add sauce, and heat. Once noodles are ready, add them to sauce pan and mix.  

In a bowl add noodles, and top with bacon and pepper mixture. 

Honey – Garlic Shrimp:

In a bowl add 2 tablespoons of soy, 1/4 cup of honey, a squeeze of Sriracha, 2 cloves of garlic and cup up ginger coins – mix and top with cut up green onions. 

In a pan add cut up shrimp, add oil, next add sauce and mix. Let stand for 30 seconds.

In a bowl add some cooked rice, place shrimp on rice and top with toasted sesame seeds and cut up green onions.

Thai Fish Curry

Cook 1 small diced onion in a table spoon of oil, and 1 garlic clove crushed in oil until softened, but not too soft.  Add 1 tablespoon of flour and 2 tablespoons of curry powder to onion mixture.  Stir well for a minute.  Add 14 ounce can of coconut milk and 1/4 cup of regular mil to your preferred thickness.  Stir in 1 tablespoon of Sriracha – let thicken and come to a simmer.  Add 1 pound snapper (or whatever you’re using), slice in bit size pieces and simmer until fish is cooked – about 10 minutes.  While it finishes, cook 1/3 – 1/2 large red pepper, diced small in a little olive oil until slightly blackened and softened.  Serve on rice and garnish with chopped green onion, cilantro and some of the red pepper. 

Asian Inspired Taco 

Chop up 1/2 of a Napa cabbage aka Chinese cabbage, throw in a bowl and add 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar, a little soy and red pepper flakes and mix. 

Skirt Steak Marinade: in a bowl add some soy, brown sugar, ginger, garlic and mix. Take 1lb of skirt steak and marinate in bowl. 

Heat up griddle, grill or pan (lots of heat), add marinated skirt steak, keep a little rare – 4 minutes on first side, and 2-3 minutes on other side.  Once done let meat sit for 10 minutes. Cut up into small slices, cutting across the grain.

Heat up tortilla, add cabbage and then top with skirt steak pieces.
