During the summer, and holiday school break, our Adventures in Space Summer, Cosmic Kids Camp, and Holiday Camps offer elementary and middle school students a chance to learn how astronauts live and work in space, launch rockets and explore adventures related to the history of flight at a series of full day or half day camps hosted by Challenger Space Center Arizona.

Arizona State ParksStarts at 6:30 pm. Ends at 8:30 pm. Visitors should bring flashlights, water, and wear good walking/hiking shoes. Meet at the entrance to the Discovery Center. We will be starting at sunset so we can get a good view to watch the moon rise. Hike will return in the moonlight.

This camp is designed for students entering grades 7, 8, and 9. Exceptional students entering grade 6 can be considered. Students will start to learn programming using Alice programming environment with 3D animation, movie and game development. Then, student will design and construct robots, learn NXT-G robotics programming, and participate in the robotics challenge at the level of difficulty similar to FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics Competition.

SWIFT weather camp is a week-long educational program developed to engage and inform teens about the science of meteorology and related career opportunities. They will engage in hands-on activities, field experiments, seminars, tours of research facilities, and workshops that expand their knowledge of atmospheric sciences, weather and forecasting, and environmental instrumentation.

Come explore the biology, physics, and nanotechnology of the colors of nature through the lens of art. Participants will draw, paint, create models, observe birds and insects, explore UV light, play with pigments, and use scientific tools such as microscopes. They will learn about scale in art and science, and learn how color is produced in objects such as feathers and butterfly wings. The final day of the academy will include a public exhibit of student work.

Girls entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grades in the fall of 2013.

MNA logoBe citizen scientists and carry out real research. Learn all about pollinators with a Northern Arizona University bumble bee researcher. Catch a variety of pollinating insects, mark them with special ID tags, and then observe them as they go about their work among the flowers, recording data that can be used by scientists. Learn how a bee’s stinger works and all about bee and other insect venoms. Also learn about hummingbirds and other animal pollinators, and of course, learn all about flowers ―why they exist, how pollen works, and the unique structures of flowers. Pollinators allow plants to make delicious fruits, like blackberries and wild currants. Pick berries and make jam for the whole family to enjoy. For kids ages 9-13.
