Mountain View vs Desert Ridge

Posted on: November 3rd, 2014 by xmlrpc

In the 2014 football season we experienced a great game in Mountain View vs Desert Ridge. Desert Ridge came in to the game ranked 5th in the division one rankings with an 8 and 1 record and was hungry for another victory. The Mountain View Toros came in with three wins and five losses but were not ready to give up. Kevin Ray and Dale Hellestrae were able to attend and cover this truly great game between the Mountain View Toros and and Desert Ridge Jaguars.

Led by head coach Chad Degrenier and running back Caleb Daniels Mountain View came in to this game looking a victory to turn around their season. Daniels had just come off a 303 yard rushing game and ready for more. Desert Ridge head coach Jeremy Hathcock and Desert Ridge football star twins Tarek and Taren Morrison were looking to continue their dominance and help their team advance to the playoffs.

This game was a special one due to the speed of both Morrison and Daniels, with both players being very hard to stop. Tate Shumway was quarterbacking the Jaguars and having a great season doing so. Mountain View vs Desert Ridge also included two scholar athletes in Alec Heathcock of Mountain View and Issac Tejada of Desert Ridge. Both these players had a grade point average of 3.9 or higher and were true scholar athletes. This game was full of great athletes as Justin Irby of Desert Ridge and quarterback Ryan Willis of Mountain View being big contributors. Mountain View vs Desert Ridge was a great game and both teams battled very hard. Mountain View went in to the locker room at half time down 23 to 7 but would not give up easily, as the second half of Mountain View vs Desert Ridge was greatly exciting. Be sure to check it out and remember Arizona high school football history in the 2014 game Mountain View vs Desert Ridge.

Sarah Olguin Power Lifter (Gilbert HS)

Posted on: November 2nd, 2014 by xmlrpc

Getting injured turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Sarah Olguin. After getting hurt Sarah turned her attention from body building to power lifting and was immediately successful. Sarah and her brother Sam Olguin focused her strength on power lifting and she became the strongest women in the country for her age and weight group. In Sarah’s first competition she broke the Arizona squat and bench record sky rocketing her status to an elite lifter. As her numbers increased Sarah became elite. Just four months into her power lifting career, Sarah Olguin entered a power lifting competition in California and recieved some great news. Sarah had broken the American records for squat, bench, and total weight in her division. At 17 years old Sarah Olguin can squat 235 pounds, deadlift 232 pounds, and bench 135 pounds. “I could say im the strongest 17 year old 148 pound in America so that’s pretty cool.” These numbers are impressive and on par with most boys sports. Sarah Olguin has a dream of being sponsored and becoming a professional body lifter; at this point that seems to be very realistic.

Training to be a power lifter is about a lot more than just working out. Sarah Olguin says the hardest part is going out with friends to eat and knowing she can’t be eating the same foods. On a daily basis Sarah will bring chicken, rice, and vegetables so she can eat the right foods and stay in shape. More than just a body builder Sarah excels in many aspects of life. While working 25 hours per week and earning a 4.0 grade point average, Sarah still is able to be a good family member and friend. Olguin plans to drop from 148 pounds to 132 pounds and continue her dominance in women’s power lifting.
