Each week Cox Communications and SCF are proud to honor two players with: “Scholar Athlete Awards” for outstanding on and off the field contributions.

 

 

11/05 Westview vs Millennium

Tonight’s honoree’s are Brennan Bowen of Westview and Mike Massey of Millennium. Brennan has a 4.0 GPA as a two year starter on Knights football team. He is a two year letterman in track, Junior class president, and has volunteered for Relay for Life and was chosen to go to Europe this summer for People to People. Mike has a 4.2 weighted GPA, has run track, is in NHS and FFA, and has volunteered at Litchfield Elementary School and Relay for Life. Brennan and Mike, two outstanding Scholar Athletes.

10/29 Dobson at Corona

This week’s honorees are Kyle Homewood of Corona del Sol and Tyler Post of Dobson. Kyle has a 3.73 GPA, is a first chair all-state tenor in the Choir program, election supervisor for Student Council, and volunteers for St. Vincent de Paul. Tyler has a 3.7 GPA, is in the German Club, has volunteered at a homeless shelter in San Diego, and works at Harkins movie theatre. Congratulations to Kyle and Tyler, two outstanding scholar athletes.

10/23 Ironwood Ridge at Sunnyside

Tonight's honoree’s are Alfred Leon of Sunnyside and Tyler Buntrock of Ironwood Ridge. Alfred has a 3.3 GPA as a three year varsity football player. Tyler is a two way starter and has a 3.7 cumulative GPA. Congratulations to these two fine student athletes.

10/22 Saguaro at McClintock

Tonight  we honor Hayden Tippett of McClintock and David Minard of Saguaro. Hayden ranks 4th in his class of over 400 with a 3.9 unweighted GPA. He is in the Letterman’s Club and the Yearbook Club. He was second in the state as a sophomore at 189 pounds in wrestling and was Region champion in the shot put last spring. David has a 3.1 GPA and has over 1500 community service hours with the Boys and Girls Club of Scottsdale, Arrow Horse rescue, and the Boy Scouts. Congratulations to Hayden and David, two outstanding scholar athletes

10/15 North Canyon at Desert Mountain

Tonight we honor Colten Rasen “ruh-seen” of Desert Mountain and Alex Schwindt of North Canyon. Colten has a 4.6 GPA ranking top 5% in his class. He wrestles and is an Eagle scout. Alex has a 3.8 GPA, plays basketball, and has volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul, North Hills Church, and as a youth football coach. Congratulations to Colten and Alex, two outstanding leaders.

10/8 Horizon at Chaparral

Tonight’s honorees are Brendan Murphy of Chaparral and Marko Stankovic “vitch” of Horizon. Brendan has a 4.0 unweighted GPA and was a state qualifier in the 100 and 200 meters. He has also been a volunteer youth football coach. Marko carries a 4.62 weighted GPA, top 4% of his class, played basketball, is in NHS and Society of Gentlemen’s Scholar club and volunteered last summer at a hospital in the former Yugoslavia. Congratulations to Brendan and Marko.

10/2 Buena @ Salpointe

Tonight, we are proud to honor JT May of Buena and Dillon Siler of Salpointe. JT has a 4.05 GPA , is involved with Sister Cities Club where he is vice principal, is president of the QB Club, volunteers with youth football, and is in NHS. Dillon has a 3.6 GPA, volunteers for the Games for the Greater Good, Habitat for Humanity, plays basketball, and is in Student Council. Congratulations to these two fine student athletes.

10/1 North at Trevor Browne

Tonight’s honorees are Candy Cardenas of North and Anthony Rivera of Trevor Browne. Candy has a 4.05 GPA at North taking honors classes. He’s played JV basketball and volunteers as youth coordinator at Wesley Community Center. Anthony has a 3.9 GPA, is 21rst in his class, has attended Bruin Town leadership camp, and is an AVID tutor. Congratulations to Candy and Anthony, two outstanding student athletes.

9/24 Marcos de Niza vs Desert Ridge

This week's honoree’s are Richard Belles of Desert Ridge and Christian Mancha of Marcos de Niza. Richard has a 3.8 GPA, wrestles, is in Model United Nations and Youth in Government. Christian holds a 4.22 weighted GPA, wrestles, is in the Athletic Republic, FCA, and has volunteered at Paz de Christo feeding the needy. Congratulations to both Richard and Christian, two outstanding scholar athletes.

9/17 Brophy vs Centennial

This week we honor Max Leonesio of Brophy Prep and Austin Garday of Centennial. Max has a 4.5 GPA, runs track, and is in CALC club, Big Brothers, and Homeward bound as well as working with Autistic children. Austin has a 3.8 GPA, plays outfield on the baseball team, and works with HOPE KIDS. Congratulations to these two fine athletes.

9/11 Santa Rita at Sabino

Tonight’s honorees are Bryce Gallion of Santa Rita and Jake Tick of Sabino. Bryce has a 3.9 GPA, is a three year varsity performer, has been a member of student council, and is a boy scout. Jake has a 3.9 GPA, is in the National Honor Society, and is a catcher on the baseball team. Congratulations to Bryce and Jake.

 

9/10 Arcadia at Paradise Valley  

Tonight’s honorees are Jordan Firman of Arcadia and Cyrus Way of Paradise Valley. Jordan has a 4.5 GPA and is the student body vice president. He runs the 400 and 800 meters on the track team and has participated in the Arcadia service learning program, donating over 100 hours to volunteer service last year. Cyrus has a 3.95 GPA as a 3 year varsity football player. He is also on the track team, is a three year AIA scholar athlete, and volunteers coaching youth football. Congratulations to Jordan and Cyrus.

 

9/3 Higley at Queen Creek

Tonight’s honoree’s are Jordan Davy of Higley and Adam Brezeczek “brez-eck” of Queen Creek. Jordan has a 3.0 GPA, throws shot and discus on the track team, and is a Special Olympics volunteer. Adam has a 4.2 GPA, plays baseball, and is in NHS, LINK crew, and volunteers at Future for Kids. Congratulations to Jordan and Adam.

 

8/28 Desert Vista at Tucson High

Tonight’s honoree’s are Michael Flaster of Desert Vista and William Estes of Tucson High. Michael has a 3.6 GPA and also runs track. He is the founder of the Peace of the Middle East Club on campus. William carries a 3.9 GPA, wrestles, and is a member of FFA. Congratulations to Michael and William.

8/27 St. Mary’s at Hamilton

Tonight’s scholar athletes are Tevin Hood of Hamilton and Josh Fulton of St. Mary’s. Tevin carries a 4.57 GPA, wrestles, and is in NHS and LINK crew. Josh has a 3.7 GPA, plays basketball, and helps mentor junior high students. Congratulations to Tevin Hood and Josh Fulton, tonight’s SCF Arizona scholar athletes of the game.
